Given the 638 engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh alone, there is going to
be a lot of competition in the engineering job market. Any graduating engineer
should therefore be adequately prepared to stand out from the crowd.
One thing that you should not expect is a large starting salary. Working your
way up the ladder is the way to go. People have started as management trainees
in large PSUs with as little as 1,800 Rupees per month starting salaries. With
20 years of experience, they are earning 1.25 to 1.75 lakhs per month in India,
2.5 to 5 lakhs in the Middle East (tax free, mind you) and $8000-$16000 in the
West.
You will have to put in a lot of effort. Like in any other field, in
engineering too, if you are good, you can expect to have a good career.
We came across a very useful article in the newspaper recently. The six myths about Engineering you should know has
information that would help you make a more informed decision.
